For black cats, of course. I now have at least one, probably 2 young adult, very friendly, short haired, female black cats. They need homes that are not mine. Cat #1 was found in the Safeway parking lot 2 days ago. She has a collar. I have hopes of an owner showing up yet, and have placed found ads in the local papers. We'll see. Cat #2 was left on the clinic's door step sometime last night/this morning with no information. I'll be spaying and vaccinating her tomorrow. Anybody need a kitty?
Tue, Nov. 10th, 2009, 11:36 am Norman!
And another foster off to a new home, hurrah! Norman has been re-named Rough, and gone off to live with one of my really amusing and dedicated clients. Hopefully he'll fit in with her crazy menagerie and they'll all be happy. Wish him luck!
Second hand pup, in need of good home; anybody want a male German Shepherd mix dog that has apparently had some training and really likes people? Restrained from eating the finders' 5 small dogs and numerous cats, walks well on a leash, very quiet, kennels easily. Showed up on their porch at 5 am and was brought to the clinic as a Sheriff's Dept impound? Nice boy, needs neutering. About a year old. I hear by dub him "Norman".

Notorious P.I.G. has been shipped to the Seattle area to be a luxury-model city-pig, in the yard of a classmate of mine from Veterinary College. Hurrah! Snowflake is spending the night with the nice man who owns the local feed store; hopefully she'll be staying there for permanent-like! The fawn will be transferred to a different rehabber next weekend, so that he can be buddied up with another fawn or two and learn to be a deer instead of thinking he's a pet. So we're getting down to a much more reasonable number of fosters... now if I can just find someone who wants an elderly but sweet long haired cat....
Mon, Jul. 6th, 2009, 10:53 pm overwhelmed
It's been a crazy weekend. I will refrain from whining about work for once. That doesn't mean work was nice, just that I'm on a different topic. I finally got one of the two dachshund mixes (Haze) adopted out. That leaves one dog (Snowflake) in foster. Saturday afternoon, Bruce helped me help the sheriff's deputies round up a pot bellied pig that'd been abandoned about a month ago. He's large. He's now parked at Bruce's folks', since I have no pig-proof fence. (Hello, Notorious P.I.G.) While there, we also scooped up a cat that'd been abandoned. VERY sweet calico, in very rough shape. She's been leukemia tested, de-flea'd, de-matted (ie, mostly shaved) and vaccinated. Now she just needs to gain 2 pounds to be the size of a real cat. We've dubbed her Caliope. AND I now have a fawn. Cute little buck fawn, except for the part where he stinks of rotting flesh. Yay maggots and abscesses. So.... does someone out there want a critter of any sort? I've got a variety pack and am happy to transport to the Seattle area this weekend. Please? PLEASE?!?!?
I mentioned a few days ago that I've been getting a lot of random and annoying calls about foster dogs... people that can't follow exceedingly simple directions like "for more information, call H and ***-****" The other day, I got an email inquiry about Haze and Snowflake from someone in W-ville. Says she's looking for 2 small dogs to adopt together, because her old dog has died and she has "a hole in her heart" without dogs around. Okay, great. I sent her an adoption application, and some more info on the dogs, said I'd be happy to meet her in the middle to introduce her to the dogs since she lives quite a ways away. Today I get back an email saying "Thank you, but I'm not ready yet, just looking. I do hope you find a great home for these two. I am interested in 2 but it is too early, just lost mine last week. Thank you." So what the Hell? If you're not ready, why are you looking and asking about them? Do you think I'm going to just hold them indefinitely until you feel like adopting new dogs? WHY ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME? Gah.
Fri, Jun. 19th, 2009, 07:15 pm they're back
The dachshund twins did not work out in the trial home, so they're back at my house. Yay. Anybody need a little dog or 2?
So a while back, when I had Rascal the broken-legged (stress on the ed there, of course), I was whinging about expensive fosters and trying to find him a home, as is my wont. I actually managed to get a few hundred dollars donated towards his cause from some folks here, and some folks on another website, and ran raffle to get about a hundred more. The rest of his bills came out of my pocket of course (this is so commonly the case that it is the reason I got the non-profit status; I do enough of this that it's worth it to do itemized deductions). And I thought that one was taken care of and done. Until the other day, when I got a check in the mail, from a beautiful, wonderful, unbelievable person that I play word games with online. For $250. And a note that they intend to send another, not so puny check, at the end of the year. PUNY? Besides what I donate, that's the largest single donation I've gotten! So I'm actually not only caught up on the bills for the dachshunds, but actually ahead for once! whee!
Fri, Jun. 12th, 2009, 09:15 pm Dachshunds
Hurrah! Both fosters are off to a trial home for the weekend! And if the kids' excitement is any indicator, they won't be coming back next week. This makes me much happy, as I was getting really tired of the 3am puppy walks.
I have 2 foster dogs currently. Sister/brother pair of dachshund mixes, born last October. They each have a bad hip due to a lovely genetic abnormality.I've done surgery on sister's hip and spayed her already. Brother still needs done. Then they both need homes (together, separately, I don't care, as long as they aren't at my house long-term). Anybody out there need a small dog or 2? They are generally friendly (a little shy at first but not snapping or peeing on themselves), get along with other dogs, don't eat cats. Also, Petfinder.com is running a "pick your favorite rescue and we'll give them money" contest. So feel free (or pressured, or ordered) to go to http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com and click on the donate dog food thing, then the next page brings up a vote for your favorite shelter page (down towards the bottom. keep scrolling.) Wayward Creatures Relief Agency, in WA of course. Thanks! (I doubt I can out-compete bigger shelters with more supporters, but hey, what's it hurt to try?) Everyone can vote daily, and while you're there, hit the other sites along the top to send rice to hungry people and books to inner city kids and mammograms to womens.
Sat, Apr. 18th, 2009, 09:29 pm Foster-free
Rascal was adopted today, by one of the vet techs at WSU. Couldn't think of a better place to send him, really. :) Don't recall if I posted or not, but both Popeye (the orange fluffy cat) and Sylvia (the black and white that didn't like other cats) got adopted last week. For the now, I'm foster free. Also, as my lovely Bruce pointed out last night, it no longer smells like winter! Today was a very pleasant high sixties. By Monday it's supposed to be up to 80--not sure that bouncing 40 degrees in 4 days is something my heat tolerance will handle well, but it'll make Bruce happy :)
Fri, Apr. 10th, 2009, 08:04 pm Better day
Mostly today was busy as all Hell, but some good things happened: 1: I got the orange cat adopted out! Hurray! 2: The lady that adopted the black cat reportedly quite likes her. 3: The gent that adopted the orange cat has promised to bring me a sizeable donation tomorrow (we're assuming this will actually happen, because dammit, it's REALLY help. 4: The last minute emergency today was a really nice dog with a quiet and understanding owner, and the dog appears to be doing well. 5: Dinner in the park with my lover (despite the absolutely horrid customer service at the deli, this turned out well). 6: I got the orange cat adopted out! (Have I mentioned Hurray!?) This means I'm out of foster cats for the moment, and that's a good thing. Now I just need to get the puppy patched up. And on that note... 7: Got a call early this morning from a lady back east asking about donating towards fixing his leg, and asking for an application for adoption. She was warned that if she adopts him, she'll be responsible for supplying a crate and paying shipping costs, and did not flinch at this idea at all. Sent her an app, we'll see if she fills it out and/or sends donation. But tentatively, hurrah. 8: Cadbury caramel eggs. You know these are good, don't pretend otherwise.
I do not have the money needed to fix Rascal's leg. Even with the "professional courtesy" discount the surgeon offers me, it'll be over $1000 to fix it up right. The "next best" option is to cast it and let it heal as best it can, but if I do that, his knee will probably be fused and not movable (he'd be able to peg-leg, as the hip and toes will still flex), but even that'll be several hundred dollars. I may have it in a month or so, after I sell my old house, but by then it'll be too late to bother. So, I'm begging. And I'm asking you to beg too... Rascal's petfinder page is here: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13448135Anyone who could or would or has any inclination or whatever; beg for dollar donations at the con, since I won't be there? If I had the weekend off, I'd be there doing my own begging, but I'll be at work instead. All donations are tax deductible. Any checks should be made to Wayward Creatures Relief Agency.

Little puppy has been adopted already! whoohoo!
First one: I have a new foster puppy. She's very cute, and has nothing wrong with her that I know of, except that she's a puppy. You know you want one. Please? 3.5 pounds, 7-8 weeks old. White with gold ears and spots. Possibly heeler/jack russell mix? Pictures and more info here: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13116625
Sun, Jan. 4th, 2009, 05:37 pm Tiny Tim
Has been adopted! huzzah!
Apparently. Placed Pippen in a new home Friday morning, and Friday afternoon got Tiny Tim. Tiny Tim is in pretty rough shape. A young adult tom (about 9 months), he weighs less than 4 pounds. Too thin to stay warm in the cold weather, Tim was brought to rescue the day of a major snow storm. He has a severe upper respiratory infection, all the expected parasites, and an unexpectedly great attitude. Even in his run-down condition, Tiny Tim is loving, rolling over to allow belly-rubbing and kneading at petting hands (carefully not using his claws). His purr is bigger than he is! He is totally unconcerned about the attentions of dogs, and seems neutral on the idea of other cats. I suspect he will be more playful with the other cats when he is feeling better. We're hoping to find people interested in taking him on soon, though right now he's still needing quite a bit of care. Once he's back up to a more reasonable weight and we've got the upper respiratory infection under control, he'll be neutered and vaccinated. He is negative for feline leukemia. Pictures at the linky, because I'm too lazy to post them in this entry this morning: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12601062
Fri, Dec. 12th, 2008, 03:24 pm Whoohoo!
Pippen's off to a new home, wish him luck and hope that he won't come back 'cuz I'm happy about it. Good clients, good people.
